Mental Heath… did you know?

Most of us do not understand how everything is changing by the government. A recent post noted that a study found only 4 percent of Americans say they are aware of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008, which requires mental and behavioral health coverage to be equal to or better than coverage for physical health. They also pointed to the importance of insurance coverage for psychological services for many Americans when deciding to seek treatment for a mental health condition. The study indicated that Americans When asked why they or a family member would not seek treatment, concern about cost was the most frequently cited reason, with more than 1 in 5 (22 percent) saying that cost was a barrier to seeking treatment.

Survey findings also revealed that even though more than 1 in 4 Americans (27 percent) have received treatment or therapy from a mental health professional, few people know that when their health insurance covers mental health, behavioral health and substance-use disorders, insurers are required to provide coverage that is comparable to coverage for physical health disorders.
